How data analysis changed my career trajectory

When I first came to Shanghai to participate in the CDA data analysis job training course in March, I did not expect that this choice would change my future career trajectory.

In fact, the field of data analysis or data mining has really become popular since 17 years. At that time, there was still a shortage of talents in this area in the market, but the corresponding positions were relatively few. The learning community in this area was mostly from 17 years. After failing the postgraduate entrance examination, I have been looking for a new direction. This failure once made me very frustrated, and it made me think about whether it is necessary to persist in this way. I am very familiar with the concept of opportunity cost in economics. After all, what I am testing is Western economics. Today's era is developing very fast. You must be clear about the current situation of the entire job market and the trend in the next few years. Choosing the wrong industry will make people pay a greater price.

I have been learning about the current job market from various channels. By chance, I learned about CDA data analysts from the Home of Economics and Management. In the Home of Economics and Management (formerly the Economic Forum of the People's University of China), most of the students majoring in economics and management are familiar with this platform, and I think it is more reliable.

After many comparisons and discussions with my family, I decided to go to Shanghai to take part in a data analysis job class. I started my career in the direction of data analysis, and this industry has more potential in my opinion.

The three-month study life is very fulfilling and challenging. Most of the teachers who teach us have quite a lot of teaching experience, and offline classes can facilitate face-to-face communication with teachers and solve difficult problems in class in a timely manner. The scope of curriculum design is very wide, from Excel, SQL , SPSS to Python, R and other application software will be involved. In addition, there are partial theoretical knowledge of statistics and data mining algorithms.

In addition to the hours of class during the day, the teaching assistant also asked us to divide into several study groups. Group members can study together and supervise together. The people in our group are more eager to learn. Everyone stayed behind until ten o'clock in the evening after class in the daytime. They were basically the last group of people who left the building. At the weekend, a few of our classmates went to the community library to continue their study and consolidate their knowledge. We know very well that we are responsible for our own future by learning more and spelling more now. Everyone is an adult and can see the pros and cons of doing one thing.

Learning this matter can only be transformed into your own things by actively learning, practicing, and thinking, and can improve your own ability. The teacher is only an assistant, and can help you point out the direction of learning, so that we can avoid detours. And there must not be the idea that I will be able to find a job after applying for a class. It all depends on you. Your future path is step by step from the present. Once you are able to devote yourself psychologically and concentrate on learning professional knowledge, then all obstacles are not a problem.

In the learning process, you can add a few high-quality groups on data analysis, collect more information, and then act immediately. In addition, learning must have focus and initiative. The teacher's description in class is definitely not that comprehensive. You have to find materials and projects during class.

You can try to do the data analysis entry project on Kaggle and learn some open source kernels. There are also many people who switch to data analysis on Zhihu, and there are some high-quality columns to pay attention to, and constantly improve their own knowledge system by learning from the strengths and summaries of others. In this way, you won't feel directionless and confused. You will strengthen your confidence even more. Look at so many people who have also changed careers. Everyone has worked so hard, and I can't fall behind.

The three-month training passed quickly, and by the end everyone turned their attention to employment. The school has arranged employment teachers to guide us to revise our resumes to improve the chance of passing the screening, and also teach the etiquette and skills of the interview to increase the chance of passing the interview. In addition to posting resumes on major recruitment websites, school teachers also provide opportunities for employment recommendations.

I was also fortunate enough. I got an interview opportunity for an Internet finance company through the recommendation of my teacher. After that, I played well during the interview and I joined the company smoothly. After that, I took up the position of risk data analysis and met my expectations. I also recognized the company's working environment and work content. It can be said that the hard work pays off. Of course, there are many things to learn after entering the company, including some untouched technologies and a lot of business knowledge. I am also trying to adapt to the rhythm of the company and continue to learn to improve my abilities.

I have always believed that God pays for hard work, and it is not worth donating. I will not regret choosing the field of data analysis, and I will go on more firmly and usher in the next chapter of my life.
