Restaurant Industry | Managers break through career bottlenecks, focus on improving digital management

2022-11-22

Interviewer: Hello, we meet again, today we have invited He Xianzhen to participate in the CDA licensee online interview, data analysis is really all over the industry, today's licensee is from the catering industry, welcome He Xianzhen, and say hello to everyone.

He Xianzhen: Hello, my name is He Xianzhen, majoring in international economics and trade. I studied statistics, econometrics, probability theory and other related knowledge during my college years, and have been working in a restaurant company for production planning and production management after graduation.

Question 1.

A restaurant company working in production planning and production management, this and the usual data analysis position may be relatively unfamiliar, what is usually responsible for specific work? Can you tell us more about it?

He Xianzhen.

During the period of production management, the main task is to arrange the next day's staff attendance and rotation according to the second day's production plan received on the same day, followed by monitoring the production progress and quality of dishes in the daily production process, and making secondary distribution of field staff according to the production progress; when it comes to the production planning module, the main daily work is to issue daily and weekly plans according to the store's order demand on the same day and history, and the rest of the work will also include including data analysis applications, e.g. we will analyze sales data on a monthly basis, based on the store's past 3 months of order data, to evaluate the next phase of online and offline products.

Question 2:

Can you tell us the main pain points of restaurant companies from the perspective of data analysis?

He Xianzhen.

The first one is the change of social environment, the increase of resistance to economic growth and the decrease of people's consumption power, resulting in the loss of passive customers; according to the data released by the state in the first half of this year, China's economic growth in the first half of this year was only 2.5%, which can be said to be a new historical low. Under the dual influence of the social environment and economic growth hindered, residents' consumption will also receive the impact.

The second is the diversity of consumer tastes and restaurant production standards a contradiction; chain restaurant dishes from production to production will have standards, but restaurant standards and the diversity of consumer tastes sometimes contradictory.

The third is the relatively low participation of small and medium-sized restaurants in the Internet; on the one hand, due to the lack of effective work management processes and risk tolerance of small and medium-sized restaurants themselves are still relatively low, it is difficult to successfully undertake a set of catering systems; on the other hand, whether to join the Internet platform dilemma, join the Internet platform (such as: Meituan, hungry) does allow restaurants to have a guaranteed amount of orders, but will be the platform, riders take away Part of the profits, do not join will face greater uncertainty.

Question 3.

In the face of these pain points, and how should companies go to alleviate?

He Xianzhen.

In the face of customer loss, enterprises need to make more accurate marketing, according to the location, local consumption levels, habits of their own product positioning; for the diversity of flavors and the contradiction of the restaurant production standards, we can set up a simple questionnaire before the start of service digital methods to customers for user tags, user portraits of the initial production, so as to provide dishes that meet customer tastes;. Thirdly, I think a small and medium-sized restaurant is equivalent to a small and medium-sized enterprise, for them, the cost of building their own data platform, supply chain system may be relatively high, whether this can help them from the policy to have their own data platform to help their daily operations.

Question 4:

Do you think that working in the restaurant industry, in addition to the necessary skills of data analysis class, but also to master what experience, knowledge?

He Xianzhen.

Mature catering companies will have their own set of supply chain management systems, the main two systems that need to be mastered are SAP and ERP, which are more important for any supply chain company. Our daily work revolves around these two systems, ERP system is the full name of the supply chain management system, from order placement, audit, procurement management, production, warehousing, transportation and other functions are realized in this system. SAP system is a German development of enterprise management software series, strictly speaking, is also an ERP software system, because its control of the process is very detailed and rigorous, has been used in all walks of life, including the familiar China National Petroleum, Midea Appliances, Haitian and a series of listed enterprises are applied, there are generally seven modules: the developer module ABAP, financial module FICO HR module, HR module, material management module MM, factory maintenance module PM, production planning module PP, sales and distribution module SD, in my past work experience, the use of more PP module, SD module and MM module.

Question 5.

Xianzhen, I see that you have passed both CDA Level 1.2 certificates, which is very impressive. What are the differences in preparing for Level 1.2? For example, the focus, the difficulty. Experience and so on. Can you share it with us?

He Xianzhen.

The difference for me personally, first of all, the difference in preparation time, my preparation time for level 1 is about 1 month, level 2 is about 2 times the time of level 1; secondly, the content of the test, the focus of level 1 is descriptive analysis, the elaboration is more about what the data represents; level 2 is on the basis of what is deepening, inferential analysis and prediction. Take the familiar mean as an example, the assessment method in level 1 may be that you are given a piece of data and asked to calculate the sample/overall arithmetic mean of this piece of data, in level 2 the assessment may turn into judging which variables affect the value of the arithmetic mean according to the formula of the arithmetic mean ..... this requires a familiar knowledge of formulas and concepts when preparing for level 2.

For the important point, the important point of level 1 is mainly in chapter 6, business data analysis, this chapter is mainly around three major directions: business indicators (such as: if you want to analyze the inventory situation, you can use the age of inventory, inventory turnover days, etc.), business analysis methods (customer source analysis, commodity sales and inventory analysis, etc.), business analysis models (such as: the four quadrants of product analysis, user RFM model, user loyalty model). This chapter we need to master the application of each model, the connection between each other and the difference, for multivariate linear model also need to master the relevant dimensionality reduction methods (principal component analysis or factor analysis).

There are many platforms on which excellent CDA students share their experiences, so you can learn from them and find a method that suits you.

Conclusion.

Every time we get the content of the interview with the licensee, we marvel at their contribution in different fields, through the arrangement and combination of data, modeling analysis, practice verification, and finally form a powerful support for business decision-making, to help enterprises' product iteration, accurate marketing and scale operation, I believe that in the future there will be more traditional industries, can be supported by data analysis to develop a broader business Thank you for the interview, and see you next time!

Thanks for watching
