Graduates of 2022 seek jobs: they would rather cut their salary than join in

2022-11-22

In 2022, China's college graduates exceeded the 10 million mark for the first time, setting a new historical record, and the employment situation of graduates has received social attention.

The report shows that only half of the graduates choose to be employed in units, and the proportion of freelance and slow employment is further increased; employment pressure is the first reason for choosing graduation destination; the number of master students choosing to study for doctoral degree has increased, and "doctoral fever" may be rising; students from double-class colleges and universities are more interested in further study than general students and students from specialized colleges and universities. Students from double-class colleges and universities are more interested in further studies than students from general and specialized colleges and universities.

The average monthly salary of 2022 graduates is 6507 RMB
The average expected monthly salary of the class of 2022 graduates is RMB 6295, down 6% from last year's RMB 6711. Among them, 12.8% of the expected monthly salary is below RMB 4,000, higher than 8.9% in 2021; 44.6% of the expected monthly salary is above RMB 6,000, lower than 50.8% in 2021. Regardless of the average value, or segmented salary, the lowered monthly salary expectation of the current graduates is universal, which also indicates that graduates are willing to lower their salary requirements to adapt to the job market.
Among the fresh graduates who have already got the Offer and completed the contract, the average monthly contract salary is RMB 6,507, 12% lower than the RMB 7,395 in 2021. Among them, 10.7% of those who have signed a contract with a monthly salary of $10,000 or more, 8.5 percentage points lower than last year; 6% of graduates with a monthly salary of less than $3,000, 1.5 percentage points higher than last year. The decline of average contract salary is consistent with graduates' psychological expectation of salary.

From the perspective of education, we can also see that the overall demand for talents with high education in the recruitment market is still strong, especially for technical and management positions with high salaries, which has led to the continuous rise of the phenomenon of "exam fever".

The proportion of those who chose to continue their study in China accounted for nearly 10%, and the proportion of those who went abroad to continue their study was 1.3%, slightly lower than last year.

Among the factors that fresh graduates consider when choosing where to go, employment pressure accounts for the highest percentage, at 47.6%, followed by their major (36.1%) and the economic situation (35.6%), while factors such as institutional background, elders' opinions and ideal hobbies are less influential. It can be seen that, compared with personal factors, environmental factors have a more important influence on the destination of graduates.

The current domestic epidemic repeatedly, economic development and the job market under pressure, the proportion of fresh graduates who feel that the competition for jobs this year is very fierce is 61%, 6 percentage points higher than last year. Therefore, more people choose to continue their education, freelance, slow employment and other ways to relieve their own employment pressure.

In 2022, the percentage of master's degree students who choose to "continue their studies in China" is 11%, significantly higher than the 4.3% in 2021. On the one hand, domestic doctoral talents are still scarce, and the salary level has obvious advantages compared with other degrees, which attracts more master's students to take doctoral examinations; on the other hand, it may also be an option for master's students to suspend their employment, whether the "examination fever" will gradually penetrate into the "examination fever". It is worth paying attention to.

The preference for corporate stability in job hunting has increased
According to the "2021 Employment Trends Report for Mid- and High-End Talents" released by Hire, the year-on-year growth rate of new jobs in the industry is 4.20% in 2020 and 22.94% in 2021, with the latter far exceeding the former. 2021 is known as the Internet history to the low, and some Internet mid- to high-end talent job search intentions are also changing. In the face of the Internet industry experienced industry restructuring and staff optimization, many of the Internet mid- to high-end talent are willing to take a pay cut to find a job. Hire big data show that 46.90% of the current salary of high-end Internet talents is higher than the salary ceiling of their submitted positions, which means that they are willing to reduce their salaries to find jobs.

From the wisdom of the recruitment research of the 2022 graduates of the type of enterprise preference, the current generation of graduates seeking stability mentality has increased, state-owned enterprises are still the first choice of graduates, accounting for 44.4%, higher than the 42.5% in 2021. The percentage of those who choose private enterprises is 17.4%, down from 19% in 2021. The rising fever of state-owned enterprises and public examinations and the decreasing fever of private enterprises together reflect the intensified mentality of this year's graduates to seek stability in choosing jobs. In addition, it may also be related to the expansion of state-owned enterprises for college students after the epidemic.

From the industry point of view, the proportion of 2022 graduates expecting to go to IT/communication/electronics/Internet and real estate/construction industries are 24.1% and 8.8% respectively, 1.3 and 2.1 percentage points lower than last year. With the slowdown of the Internet and real estate industries since last year, the growth rate of recruitment scale has slowed down or contracted, and graduates have adjusted their employment expectations in response to the trend and reduced their choices of these two industries.

For this year's graduates, salary and benefits are still the primary concern when seeking employment, accounting for 65%, but lower than the 68.5% in 2021. Work-life balance" ranked second at 38.5%, up from 34% in 2021. Those who said "stability is most important in a bad environment" ranked third at 36.2%, up from 29.8% in 2021. This shows that graduates are beginning to pay more attention to career-life harmony and value job stability.

Wisdom recruitment, said the research can be found that the employment situation in 2022 is more severe than before, fresh graduates in the psychological lower job-seeking expectations, more conservative in job-seeking behavior, or by entering freelance, slow employment, study and further education to hedge against the immediate employment, or by seeking state-owned enterprises, micro enterprises in order to stabilize and preserve employment.

It can be seen that the Internet industry job seekers should pay extra attention to hot spots, focus on technical training, mastering solid and stable technology to have more and better opportunities to choose.

Internet industry development slowed down, the industry recruitment salary decline. Technical positions on the Internet core demand but continued to grow. Job seekers should pay attention to the recruitment market salary dynamics in a timely manner to make optimal job search decisions.

Job seekers should consider how to make themselves a "nail that can not be pried", how to achieve theoretical and technical breakthroughs with efficient self-improvement in existing positions, to empower themselves.

In order to get out of the winter of the Internet industry, the workplace should be more "master core skills + efficient self-improvement" way to stand out.
