Yonan Tang: hello, my name is Yonan Tang, I graduated from the School of Statistics and Mathematics of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law this year, majoring in Data Science and Big Data Technology. Our major is to learn the basic knowledge of mathematics, statistics and computer science for big data application, the basic theory, methods and skills of data modeling, analysis and processing, and statistical inference.



Interviewer: Yinan, I see you also just graduated, recently found a job, is it matching with your major?

Yonan Tang: I found a company that I think is not bad, a position in data analysis, and I'm going to start in the next few days.



Question 1.

Congratulations, as a recent graduate, what did you do to prepare for your job search?



Yonan Tang.

First of all, I think a suitable resume is needed to find a job. On your resume, you can write down all the courses you have taken that are related to your position. For example, I have submitted a job in data analysis, so basic statistics, probability and mathematical statistics, database, and machine learning are all related courses. In addition, the certificates obtained during college, English level 4 and 6, computer level certificate is also very important. Another is the experience during college, just choose the event that can reflect your professional ability to describe. As a fresh student, in addition to resume, access to job information is also essential. If you are looking for a job, you must pay attention to the school's career guidance platform, which will have a lot of information, the date of the seminar, the employment dual-selection, and now there are also many online seminars, which are worth paying attention to.



Question 2.

What did you do to prepare for your studies during college?



Yonan Tang.

My major data science and big data technology is divided from the statistics category, the basic statistics and probability and mathematical statistics are the most basic courses, many of the knowledge points are the basis for understanding the later professional courses. In addition to these theoretical courses, python, R and SQL are the basic code courses, we need to use these languages to build models and use computers to help us analyze and process data and get results. There is also a machine learning course, which is very helpful for my later data analysis and processing, for example, the classification models in supervised learning: KNN algorithm, logistic regression, decision tree, etc. are all useful models for the process of classifying data. For me, it is important to learn to understand the models and methods, learn to use computer language to build models, learn to use graphs to describe the data performance results, and learn to elaborate the results from the models. In fact, the process of taking the CDA certificate is also a process for me to learn and enrich the knowledge of data analysis, what I have learned before, like database and statistics can be perfected some more, what I have not learned, like e-commerce, is like opening up a new field of knowledge, I will take it more seriously.

This next question is a request for help initiated by our fan to you. A fan asked where to find the literature for the thesis on big data analysis class. It seems that this fan has a headache for the thesis!

Haha, it's true that thesis literature is a headache for all college students! What is a good topic or direction to recommend to do a graduation design in big data analysis?



Yonan Tang.

Nowadays, the medical field and big data are very closely combined, and big data has good applications in medical information platform, medical research field, human health testing, drug development and side effects, and clinical decision aid, so the graduation design of big data can be combined with these medical aspects, find specific medical data, and then conduct in-depth modeling and analysis. My thesis is entitled "Fetal Health Prediction Based on Statistical Learning Methods", which is based on CTG graphs reflecting the contractions of pregnant women to predict the health of the fetus and assist doctors in decision making.



Question 5.

Do you have any plans for your future study and work?



Yonan Tang.

I just registered for the CDA Level 2 exam a few days ago, and I have a year to prepare for it. I plan to study for Level 2 after work and read the reference books given in the exam syllabus. If I pass Level 2, I will apply for Level 3. I heard that Level 3 will be very difficult, but people should always walk on the road of learning to move forward. Then work, I as a new employee, I must follow the seniors to learn and experience, expand their knowledge base, rich work experience, and finally hope that I can go farther and farther on the road of data people!
